Did we just say that? Wow! Where did the summer go? Even though summertime is coming to a close soon, that doesn’t mean that the fun has to end!
As you prep your little ones to head off to school for the first time this fall or gather new supplies for those kiddos who are masters of the first day of school, we thought it would be fun to chat about some end of the summer activities that you can still squeeze in before the first day of school.

Just because the summer weeks are drawing to a close it doesn’t mean that all of the fun camps, day activities and events are! In fact, some of them are just getting started! Take a look at your local Chamber of Commerce and see what the happenings are in and around your community. We bet you will find several more things scheduled before the kids head back to school. With family vacations coming to a close, many local museums, children’s parks and activity centers are just ramping up their schedule of activities. Check and see what you can find! Often, you will find free events as well!
The best part of the season might be the one that is saved for the last few weeks of summer … County and State Fair time! The fair calendars are full to the brim with all kinds of activities for young children and families to experience together. So, grab your family, strollers and some water and get ready for all things fried foods on a stick, epic music concerts and animals galore!
You know what a lot of youth and adults have been doing this summer? Preparing for their theatrical performances! Many plays, skits, comedy shows, musicals, musical acts and more have been preparing for weeks to entertain you and your family. Check your local outdoor theaters and see who you can go support and encourage all while have some fun family time together.
Those veggies, fruits, flowers and plants have been growing in the perfect temps and outdoor gardens for several weeks and they are prime and ready for enjoyment. Now is the time to enjoy the fruits of your labor (or your neighbors if they have more of a green thumb) and sample various foods with friends and family while enjoying the outdoor atmosphere of music, art and hand made goods. Nothing is more fun than seeing the amazing talent of your local community!
Many families have been to the parks and back already this summer. However, if you haven’t yet, don’t worry. There is still time! Be sure to check the park schedule that you plan to attend for hours of operation, but also check to see what last bit of summer specials they have running! Grab your friends and family and enjoy a day of fun in the sun.
